This is a construction that I think started in late 2012 but it is New Zealand's biggest motorway development so far. It is called the Waterview connection it is going to connect great north road all the way to Owarika. it is going to be a 2.5 motorway tunnel. and they have completed digging the main tunnel. Below are a piece of the plans.Below the pictures will show you the northern portal and the Southern portal.

So it is bassically going to connect SH16 with SH20. It is also said that it will take 15 minutes less from Auckland CBD to Auckland airport. The construction will end in Middle 2016.

Second harbor crossing

The second harbor crossing is a proposed Tunnel crossing the waitamata habour.the tunnel will including the proposed Shore train network that will replace the Northern busway.
It will connect to the future proposed city rail link to Aotea station. The train way will run all the way to Albany. This will also include a 3 lane. highway system that will also help with less traffic on the harbor bridge. The NZTA were thinking about this to help Auckland's traffic network. It was great when the harbor bridge was created because there was 2 lanes on each side..then later on,we added the neon clippings. to add more lanes for Auckland's growth in traffic.

City rail ink

The city rail link is meant to be a proposed connection for the existing western line. It will start construction in Late December 2015.It will also save lots of time for people coming from west into the city center.
The Existing western line goes through Grafton and Newmarket. at Newmarket, the trains have to do a massive turn around that takes at least ten minutes. With the city rail link, It would be much more convenient and easier for people going from west into the city. it will be at least 15 minutes less for people coming from mt Albert to the city with the city rail link..Below is a photo of the proposed city rail link.
The city rail link will have three main stations,Aotea, K road and Newton. Auckland transport are also thinking of making Aotea station the main terminal for Auckland. The city rail link will also be able to start up new tracks such as the North shore line soon to be created.

Auckland Airport Restoration

Auckland airport is the gateway for all of  New Zealand. And it is still a very small airport compared to Dubai, Sydney,Heathrow and more. But Auckland airport has 443 hectares of land that is used for nothing. Auckland Council has given us planning permission to use all this land. so here is what the artists impressions of the new Auckland airport.
It looks very modern and this is including constructing and upgrading the Onehunga rail line and extending it to Auckland airport. this will include stations such as Mangere and Ihumatao. There will also be another hotel created next to the existing Novetel hotel. The International and domestic terminal will all be combined as one as shown in the picture above. Here is what we will use for all the space Auckland airport has.
Later on in the future, Airport are hoping to build 2 more runways up north next to the future commercial precinct. This. This will means planes will be able to land much more easily and efficiently. This means the current International terminal will be Restored into two terminals, and the current Domestic terminal will be used as the air cargo precinct. Here. Here is a video that will explain lots more about the Project

Auckland's Downtown tower

There has been lots of talk about the proposed Downtown tower. This tower will have a new and restored mall, Replacing the current Downtown Mall. The mall will be on the first 2 or 3 levels. And then most probably the rest of the levels will be all Commercial. As you will look from the Picture below, It looks very nice designed from its artist impression.

The building (from what I believe.) Will replace the current PWC building. The plan on the first couple is to make the mall much more living and much more nicer then the current and existing mall.
I believe that It will not only be bigger then the current mall. It could also increase Auckland's population by maybe a couple of hundred thousands. This building is also going to have a outdoor patio for the public use which could make Auckland one more step closer to make Auckland the most livable city.
